Quarry safe: Understanding anti-rollback technology

The installation of backstops and anti-rollback technology helps to make inclined conveyors on quarry sites safer. If a conveyor drive cuts out due to failure or a power outage, it will start running backwards down the incline, taking tonnes of crushed rock with it. This poses a risk to any equipment or pedestrians situated at the bottom of the incline.

“Australia-wide, any piece of equipment that is inclined by more than four degrees is required by law to have anti-roll back technology in place,” explains Steve Hittmann, Category Manager for Industrial Drive Systems and Mobile Final Drives at Motion Australia.
